Chaffetz made headlines earlier this month when he posted a photo of an x-ray to his Instagram account, showing a number of screws and a metal plate in his foot that were surgically implanted following an injury in his home. He posted that he would regrettably be unable to make it to Washington to vote on a number of top Republican legislative priorities — like the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.

“The University of Utah doctors now recommend immediate surgery to remove all the hardware or I could be at risk for serious infection,” Chaffetz wrote last week. “My recovery is expected to take three to four weeks. I’m sorry to miss the important work we are doing in Washington. This is not an opportune time to be away but medical emergencies are never convenient.”
