Local business helping people without dental insurance

It is great when business help out the community. We all need to pull together like this more often.

A local business is offering a free service for people who may not have dental insurance.

Healing Hands in Bristol hosted a free dental hygiene fair Friday. They were motivated to hold the event after the Remote Area Medical Clinic that was set to be held at Bristol Motor Speedway was canceled.

University of Tennessee dental students along with dental hygiene students from ETSU are providing examinations along with cleanings. They are expecting about 200 people to come in for services during the two day event.

“Some of the patients I’ve seen don’t get to the dentist unless it hurts,” said dental instructor William Hartel. “So we’re trying to get ahead of the curve to try to identify the problems before they become uncomfortable. Dental health is a very important part of overall health.”

The event continues through October 15 and most of the appointments have already been booked. But there is still room for walk-ins if people get there early enough.
