The 2010 Open Enrollment Period runs from 01-01-10 through 03-31-10. The "one election rule" applies to both Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans. As a Medicare beneficiary, you  may make only one change to your Medicare Advantage plan or MA-Prescription Drug Plan, or return to Original Medicare. No action is required if you decide to keep your current plan. Changes to your coverage take effect on the first of the month following receipt of a completed enrollment form.

  • If you enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan, you will automatically be disenrolled from your current Medicare Advantage plan.  This will be your "one election" for this period.
  • If you voluntarily disenroll from your current Medicare Advantage plan, you will automatically be returned to the original Medicare program. You may NOT enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan for this period.
  • You can NOT add or drop Part D coverage during this period.
  • You can NOT enroll into an MSA Plan during this period.
  • Your effective coverage date will be the first of month following receipt of your completed enrollment form.

You can contact the Medicare office directly by calling 800-MEDICARE, or by going to www.medicare.gov.
